Dylan Kuehl’s story

It isn’t very often that my heart fills up with joy like it did today. At one o’clock, I was at the Evergreen State College sitting on the nostalgic bricks of the Red Square while I waited for the graduation ceremony to begin. As an alumni, I cherish being on the Evergreen campus. It is the place where I first learned to believe in myself. However, this post isn’t about me. it’s about something spectacular that happened today. In a historical moment, my friend Dylan became the first person with Down Syndrome to graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree in Washington State. Dylan and his, โ€œYes teamโ€, had to fight for him to be included In our educational system. In this awe-inspiring moment, Dylan is changing the world with his mission to create more inclusivity. I am humbled by your courage and grateful to call you a friend, Dylan. Thank you for paving the way to create more access for all.

โ€œEvergreen is based on acceptance, where many other students like me can have a right to be included. Diversity and inclusion create a well-rounded community for us all.โ€

We really appreciate your comments thank you Lisa. Dylan is really making some headway into proving perceptions wrong when it comes to Down Syndrome and different ability generally speaking. He has proved that he can do anything he puts his mind to and all he wants is for individuals like him to be genuinely accepted, included and given a chance! ๐Ÿ™‚
